Brave Lorne police honoured

Lorne Leading Senior Constables Mick Atkinson and Russell Harrup have earned commendations for their exemplary duty, bravery and community service after saving three swimmers at Cumberland River last year.

Two Lorne police officers have earned commendations for their heroic efforts rescuing drowning swimmers.

Leading Senior Constables Mick Atkinson and Russell Harrup received divisional commendations at a Geelong awards ceremony last week for exemplary duty, bravery and community service.

The Leading Senior Constables rescued four people at Cumberland River in 2017 and 2018 in two separate incidents.

Leading Sen Const Harrup and Atkinson saved two children and a woman from drowning at Cumberland River last year, as well as rescuing a 17-year-old girl from the same beach in 2017.
