Pair on adventure to outback show

Colac’s Marie and David Middleton will volunteer at the Birdsville Big Red Bash music festival in Queensland’s Simpson Desert, helping to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

A Colac couple will travel 2200 kilometres to volunteer at a music festival in Queensland’s remote Simpson Desert to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Marie and David Middleton will volunteer at the “world’s most remote festival”, the Big Red Bash, as road marshals over two nights, contributing to charity initiatives.

“In our past we’ve done quite a bit of road marshalling with the local cycling club and mountain bike club so we’ve had a bit of experience with that, so we just thought ‘what the hell?’,” Mrs Middleton said.

“I think on the Birdsville population sign it says there might be a couple of hundred and then at the Big Red Bash it swells to about 10,000.”

Mrs Middleton said a deciding factor in travelling to the festival was the chance to see Midnight Oil live for the first time.
